Adversary was formed in the early 90's in Long Island's Valley Stream as Immortal. Over the years they have gone through many other names, including Malediction and Onslaught, before finally settling on Adversary. The band also has switched members almost as frequently as they have names, although Heino and the LaMothe brothers were at the heart of the original lineup.

The music itself draws heavily from bands such as old Life Of Agony and Biohazard, Pro-Pain, Neglect, Pantera, and Machine Head, but they would rather not label themselves, as they find it too restricting. The brutal riffs and eerie melodies combined with Heino's pain-inspired lyrics and volatile vocal stlye, Adversary has an explosive sound like no other.
